Delhi Police Force

Context: 

The Delhi Police Force turned to twitter to issue an apology to student protestors after the police used forced to evacuate the students from a protest outside of the capital building in Mumbai, India.

NY Jets Fan Brave Grancru

Context: 

Brave Grancru, a fan of NFL’s New York Jets sent a triad of twitter threats to the team’s quarterback Mark Sanchez after the team’s loss on Monday, December 17.

Among the tweets he sent out targeting Sanchez included: “DON’T COME TO PRACTICE WEDNESDAY I PROMISE YOU BULLETS EVERYWHERE…@Mark_Sanchez”

He then tweeted, “SANCHEZ BETTER HAVE ARMED SECURITY AT PRACTICE !! YOU THINK IMMA SIT HERE & WATCH THIS BULLS— ??” Continue reading

Pop Singer Ke$ha

Context: 

Ke$ha, famous American pop singer, used her Twitter account to apologize for the content of her song “Die Young” after radio stations dropped her song from their playlists in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting. The song’s music video contains gun imagery.

Apologia:

@keshasuxx on December 18:  “I understand. I had my very own issue with ‘die young’ for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO.”

@keshasuxx issued a second tweet the same day:  “I’m so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy.and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. words cannot express.”

French Basketball Player Nicolas Batum

Context: 

In the last minutes of France’s loss to Spain during the Olympic basketball games in August, Nicolas Batum punched Spain’s Juan Carlos Navarro in the groin. France had scored six points total in the fourth quarter, leaving Batum frustrated. He took to Twitter the next day to address his behavior.

Apologia:

Via Twitter:  “I want to apologize for my stupid act at the end, I showed a bad image of France and myself, Congrats to team Spain.”

Neighborhood Watchman George Zimmerman

Context:

George Zimmerman, a self-described neighborhood watchman in Florida, allegedly shot and killed an African-American teenager, Trayvon Martin. The shooting was highly controversial, first because the teenager was unarmed, and second, because when Zimmerman called the police about Martin, he was advised to not follow him and he did so anyway. Several weeks later, Zimmerman appeared on a FoxNews talk show and provided his apologia.

Apologia:

When asked if he regretted carrying a gun that night or any of his actions: “No, sir. I feel that it was all God’s plan and not for me to second-guess it or judge it.” Continue reading

Penn State QB Matt McGloin

Context: 

Penn State’s starting quarterback Matt McGloin was reportedly injured during a locker room altercation with a teammate, and when the news broke, his Twitter account had some corresponding tweets that he later said were the result of a hacker:

Tweet 1: “Recent allegations and rumors are all lies. Starting to get sick over this bullsh*t. If you have a story to report be a man and see me.”

Tennis Player Serena Williams

Context:

After a call with which she disagreed, Williams threatened to shove a tennis ball down the line judge’s throat. Williams released one apologia regarding the incident, but critics assert that it didn’t include an apology (which it didn’t). She tried a second time.
