Pop Singer Ke$ha

Context: 

Ke$ha, famous American pop singer, used her Twitter account to apologize for the content of her song “Die Young” after radio stations dropped her song from their playlists in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting. The song’s music video contains gun imagery.

Apologia:

@keshasuxx on December 18:  “I understand. I had my very own issue with ‘die young’ for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO.”

@keshasuxx issued a second tweet the same day:  “I’m so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy.and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. words cannot express.”

Singer Vince Neil

Context: 

Motley Crew’s member Vince Neil posted a response to the Newtown, Conn., shooting that caused a Twitter battle to follow between Neil and his followers. His first tweet read:  “Sad day today. Prayers to all the families. Gun Control!!!” His fans reacted by criticizing his stance on the right to bear arms and a serious of outraged tweets ensued. Finally, he issued a pseudo-apology tweet.

Apologia:

“I’ve been misunderstood on this subject. It was upsetting to me that the focus was not on the children and their families. I lost a child that age. I never said ban guns. I said gun control. Sorry if I offended anyone.” Continue reading
